Comparison of Roads & Railways
1.The railway track is subjected to very heavy concentrated and moving loads of locomotives, coaches and wagons whereas only light vehiles move along a road
2.Road is used by different types of vehicles, but the track is used only for the movement of trains
3.The train wheels move only along the track provided whereas lateral movement is permitted in roads
4.As the track is meant only for trains, it can take up more speed
5.in roads vehicles move by the tractive force of the engine between rubber tyre and the road surface whereas trains move by the tractive force between steel rails
and steel wheel where friction is comparatively less. Hence there is grade restriction on railway tracks.
6.The train wheels are rigidly fixed at fixed distance and hence the distance between the rails is to be regularly checked
